Moissanite

What is a moissanite diamond? is it real?

A moissanite diamond does not exist. Despite having a similar appearance to a diamond, a moissanite is a real, beautiful gemstone all its own. First discovered in a meteor crater by Henry Moissan in 1893, moissanite is now produced in labs, making this gem both affordable and ethical. Moissanite stones are bright and eye-catching, with a high clarity grade, colourless beauty and sparkling fire. With a hardness rating of 9.25-9.5, moissanite is incredibly durable and is guaranteed to outlast a lifetime of daily wear. Available in a variety of sizes and shapes, moissanite provides buyers with more freedom for custom designs and can be purchased for the fraction of the price of a diamond of the same size and quality. Read more

Questions Related To Lab Grown Diamonds

What are lab-grown diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds are diamonds that are grown in a laboratory rather than being mined from the earth. They have the same chemical and physical properties as natural diamonds, but they are created using advanced technology that replicates the natural diamond-growing process.

How are lab-grown diamonds made?

Lab-grown diamonds are made using two different methods: high pressure, high temperature (HPHT) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). HPHT diamonds are created by mimicking the high pressure and temperature conditions that exist deep in the earth, while CVD diamonds are made by depositing carbon onto a substrate in a vacuum chamber.

How do lab-grown diamonds compare to natural diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds are comparable to natural diamonds in terms of their chemical and physical properties, but they are typically less expensive than natural diamonds. They are also ethically and environmentally responsible, as they do not involve the environmental and social issues associated with diamond mining.

Are moissanite and lab-grown diamond rings suitable for daily wear?

Yes. Both are extremely durable and perfect for everyday use. They retain their brilliance and structure for a lifetime with proper care.

Can you tell the difference between a lab-grown diamond and a natural diamond?

How often should I clean my moissanite jewelry?

Cleaning frequency depends on how often you wear your jewelry and the level of exposure to elements like oils, lotions, and dirt. Generally, a gentle cleaning every few weeks will help maintain its sparkle.

Can I use a toothbrush to clean my moissanite jewelry?

While using a soft-bristled toothbrush can be effective in removing dirt and debris from hard-to-reach areas of your jewelry, make sure it's specifically designated for jewelry cleaning to avoid scratching the surface of your moissanite.

Is it safe to use ultrasonic cleaners on moissanite jewelry?

Yes, moissanite is a durable gemstone and generally safe to clean using ultrasonic cleaners. However, ensure that the setting of your jewelry is secure, as ultrasonic cleaning may loosen prongs or settings over time.

Store your moissanite jewelry in a soft pouch or a jewelry box with compartments to prevent scratches and minimize exposure to air and moisture, which can dull its brilliance.

Can moissanite jewelry withstand exposure to water?

Moissanite itself is resistant to damage from water, but prolonged exposure to chlorine or harsh chemicals found in pools, hot tubs, or cleaning agents may affect the metal setting or surrounding gemstones. It's best to remove your jewelry before swimming or using chemicals.

To maintain the sparkle of your moissanite jewelry, periodically soak it in warm, soapy water and gently scrub with a soft-bristled brush. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a soft cloth to remove any residue or buildup.
